2012-04-08 Novi Sad, day 8

Guess where I am!!

Yes, this is a Serbian McDonald's! Since they have WIFI I decided to come and write my blog post here! I told you they were nothing like our McDonald's, it's so cool here, if I lived here I would hang out at McDonald's every day! (I'm exagerating here I hope you know that)

We're changing location today, I am not anymore in Belgrade, I am now in Novi Sad, Serbia. It would be a nice town if it was not freeeeeeeezing!! It was so cold today :(

I left Belgrade in the morning from the bus terminal. I was really confused, didn't know where to go, and I almost ended up missing my bus, but in the end I made it and I'm very proud that I survived because honestly it was stressing me out haha. If I spoke perfect Serbian I would be ok but I still understand very little of what people say to me, especially when it's important!

It was my first experience going on a road trip in Serbian land and the only difference between our highways and theirs is that their signs are in Serbian while ours in are English or French. Other than that, a highway is a highway...

My hostel is located quite centrally, there is a square (trg) where you can see this cathedral:

My hostel is in the building on the left of the Cathedral. If you look in the other direction, there is the old city hall:

And in between those two, you have a big central area for pedestrians only, where there are people selling cute little things to the locals and the tourists.

So I walked around and took nice pictures around downtown, you will see them a bit later. Just like Belgrade, Novi Sad also has it's fortress, it is called "Petrovaradin" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrovaradin_Fortress). Fortunately, you can walk to it from downtown so I climbed many many stairs to have a look at the fortress and take pictures

I quickly read through the Wikipedia link that I posted above and there is a trivia section at the end of the article. It informed me that on the clock tower at Petrovaradin, the minutes and the hours are reversed. So I looked through my pictures and it's true! It was 2:25 when I took that picture (I remember checking my watch to make sure that the clock was really working but thanks to my huge lack of observation skills, I never noticed that the hours and minutes were reversed)

And honestly, that's pretty much all I did today! I'm sorry for not having anything more interesting to tell you, there wasn't much excitement for me today. I did see very interesting buildings but it's so cold that I didn't enjoy my day that much. Also I'm not feeling the greatest right now, I think I might have caught a cold :(

Here are some of the pictures I took in the city. It's very cute here and people in restaurants and shops are quite friendly.
