2012-04-17 Rijeka, day 17

I wouldn't want to make anybody jealous but this morning I thought of you and I took a picture of the view that I had while I was enjoying my daily burek ;)

My plan for today was to go to Trsat. I had no idea what "Trsat" was, all I knew was that it was a part of Rijeka that I hadn't seen yet and I wasn't too sure whether it was possible to walk to it because the city map was not so clear. I had seen many buses that said "Trsat" so I figured this was one option but I thought I would check with the Tourist information since I had a few other questions too.

I asked the lady and she explained to me how to get to Trsat, she said "Oh you want to go to the castle? See, you have to climb the stairs, there are 560 of them. You can easily walk from here, it should take you 30 minutes" I said OK thank you and I left. Never did she mention any bus, but when I heard 560 stairs, I thought taking a chance by bus was definitely a good idea!

So I ended up in bus #2 and when I saw something that looked like a castle, I came down. It took me 20 minutes, and I didn't climb any stairs, I was so proud of myself :)

There was a few things to see in the "Trsat" area, first there was a church:

Behind that church, there was what I believe is a "Stations of the cross". I was going to do it properly and in the right order but I diverted from the stations and went to take pictures instead :) At the top of the Stations was a very nice lookout toward the sea and the city of Rijeka. The view was splendid!

Then I went to the castle, it was so much fun!! I've seen fortifications before but seems like I don't get tired of them. I think the pictures can describe this better than my words:

What I liked the most is that everytime I was looking toward the city, I would have a view from slightly higher than the time before, so I kept seeing a little bit more things every time I was looking around. I took countless pictures today and it's very hard to pick which ones to show you because there are a lot that are very nice!!

There was a coffee shop at the castle so I decided to stop and have a lemonade (99% lemon, 1% water. So sour it would wake up a dead person. I love it!) I wouldn't want to make anybody jealous but I thought of you and decided to take a picture of the view I had while I was enjoying my lemonade ;)

Coming back from Trsat, I decided to have a look at those 560 stairs. I've never been so happy in my whole life about taking a bus. Going down the stairs was quite easy of course but I couldn't imagine how exhausted I would have been if I had climbed them up. There were stairs as far as I could see behind me and stairs as far as I could see in front of me:

At 4:30 I was meeting Nela, a girl from couchsurfing.com who had accepted to meet me. We went walking around for quite some time and had dinner together

It was very nice to get to walk with someone it's a nice change from walking by myself :) It's always interesting to hear more about Croatian life from someone who's living here.

Tomorrow we are changing location again, follow me, we are going to Pula!
