2012-04-22 Krk, day 22

Not an extremely successful day once again today, but at least I have a few pictures to show you and a good plan for tomorrow :)

I left Rijeka and arrived in Krk at 10 AM. Krk can be two things: There is an island called Krk and a city called Krk. So right now I'm in the city of Krk on the island of Krk :) I wasn't 100% sure coming here was a great idea because I have to come back to Rijeka again when I leave from here. Unfortunately the bus does not go directly from Krk to Zadar, my next destination. But since I had already booked my hostel I decided not to change the plans, I always enjoy the bus rides around Rijeka anyways with all these amazing mountains.

Today it's raining so I haven't been doing much extraodinary activities, but I didn't let the rain ruin the day and I walked around the city of Krk to take pictures of the main attractions. Krk has a few churches, nowhere as exciting as some of the ones I've seen earlier:

I'm not 100% sure but I think both pictures are actually of the same church :) There's also a castle but it's closed on Sundays, maybe I'll visit it tomorrow I don't know, it's not really big and impressive so I wouldn't mind skipping it. The whole city is surrounded by walls:

And we also have very old tiny streets like I've seen before but they're not as pretty here as they were in Poreč or Rovinj:

I've been sounding pretty negative about the city of Krk so far, but there is actually one thing that I really like here: the water side. I took a few pictures that I think look quite nice:

I've seen lots of water already, in Rijeka, Pula, Rovinj, etc. but for some reason I think the water in Krk is the best so far. Maybe because today was very windy and there were huge waves, or maybe because it is not as tourist oriented and there are lots of areas where the water side is not "fixed" to look pretty (lots of rocks and trees), but regardless what the reason is, I really enjoyed spending time by the water today. I thought it was peaceful and relaxing and I would probably be writing this blog post by the water if it wasn't raining.

It's still early in the afternoon but because of the weather, I don't really plan on doing anything else for the rest of the day. I've seen what there was to see in the city of Krk. Tomorrow I will be renting a bike and going in trails that have lots of information about olives and olive oil production, which is apparently the main business of the Island of Krk. This will hopefully be interesting and I really hope the weather will cooperate with my plans!
