2012-04-26 Plitvice Lakes, Zadar, day 26

I had a fabulous day today!

Back when I was in Osijek, I was staying at a woman's house, remember she brought me tea when I was sick? We discussed about my travel plans and she asked me if my plans included to go to Plitvice lakes. When I said no, she almost got mad at me :) She said "Since you're staying that long in Croatia, you HAVE to see Plitvice lakes".

Later on, my friend Jelena from Belgrade told me that her friend Saša and her thought I really should go to Plitvice Lakes because it is something quite beautiful to see.

Obviously, with so many people sharing the same opinion, I had no choice!

Today was the big day where I went to Plitvice lake!! I booked a guided tour from Zadar, and luckily all the people in my tour (including myself we were 6) were francophones so the whole thing was in French. Not that it mattered because the guide didn't speak much, but still it was nice to chat with the other people from the tour in my native language :)

Plitvice is a National Park and it is absolutely fabulous, just like I had been told! Well first of all, it takes one and a half hour to get there by car. Somehow, the view managed to be amazing again yet different from everything else I've seen so far

Once in Plitvice, we walked around the park, had lunch and walked some more. This lasted approximately 4 hours.

We saw lakes with magnificient colours that looked so pure and undisturbed by humans (the water is apparently drinkable actually). And we saw countless beautiful falls. See for yourself:

I was very lucky because the weather was splendid today. I'm very happy that I listened to all these people telling me to come here because it was just as wonderful as what they said. I really enjoyed the day and honestly if I had planned one more day in Zadar I would almost be tempted to take that tour again and go to Plitvice Lakes two days in a row :)

The other nice thing about the tour is that I met those 2 awesome French people!!

Blandine and Pierre! We got along quite well, we talked a lot while on the tour and I actually asked them whether they would like to have dinner with me tonight, and they said yes! So we met at the restaurant and spent the evening together which was awesome! I now have a place to go to if ever I decide to go to Normandie in two years from now (Pierre has to finish his studies first). And of course they are welcome in Ottawa anytime!

After dinner, it was dark so all three of us went to the sea organ. Yesterday I mentionned that they have lights that I hadn't seen yet. Here's what it looks like after dark:

It's hard to really show it by picture, you have to see for yourself in real life but don't come to Zadar just for that. It's neat but not breathtaking.

I'm very excited about tomorrow's destination as it has one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Croatia according to Lonely Planet. We shall see!
