2012-05-03 Dubrovnik, day 33

This morning I was on a bus ride that was different from every bus ride I've taken so far before because this time, Anglophones were clearly outnumbering the Croatians. I sat in the bus and overheard the two girls behind me talking about getting to their hostels, so I asked them if they were heading to "Fresh Sheet Hostel" because that's where I was going, but they said no. However an older lady sitting a few benches in front of me overheard me and told me "oh that's where I'm going, we can get there together". That was a very good news because the instructions on how to get there sounded complicated.

The bus ride was good. This time my beautiful mountains looked very scary because it was cloudy at first:

But I took a little nap and the sky was cleared up when I woke up:

I've seen the cutest view of my mountains where there was a lake in the middle of them, I seriously took millions of pictures but I'll show you just one :)

Ok maybe two!

Alright I'm done with the mountains for today :)

The reason why there was so many Anglophones on the bus is because I was going to the #1 tourist destination in Croatia: Dubrovnik. I don't know what you heard about it, but many many people back in Canada told me how beautiful, amazing, extraordinary Dubrovnik is. It is also nicknamed the Pearl of the Adriatic. My verdict so far: what's the big deal?

Yes, I do admit that Dubrovnik has nice buildings:

And cute and romantic streets (including a souvenirs shop with my name!)

So I can understand why someone from North America would fall in love with this place. But for me, I feel like I've already seen all this in different cities and it was just as nice. So I'm not sure why of all the places in Croatia, Dubrovnik is the one we hear from so much.

The old city is surrounded by walls:

However contrarily to Split, you can actually walk all around the walls, and I haven't done that today. So maybe once I've seen the view from the walls and once I've spent more time in this city, I might have a different opinion. I'll let you know tomorrow!

The other lady from the bus and I, we walked together to our hostel. The lady was freshly retired and was backpacking through Europe because it had been her dream all her life and she was finally doing it after so many years. I was really happy for her that she got the chance to live her dream! I was going to invite her to have lunch with me but the lady at the reception took her to her room and mine was in a different building two doors down so we got separated before I got a chance to say anything. Oh well, maybe we'll meet again in Dubrovnik, it's not that big of a town.

At one point I entered a building where I think an artist lived, it got converted in a museum of some sort, anyways there was a lady at the desk and I asked in Croatian if it costed something to get in. She asked me if I had the "3-day Dubrovnik museum pass" but I didn't so I had a look at that pass and I decided not to buy it, then I asked how much it was to go in and she said "oh don't worry about it, just go in". Yay, free museum! It was very small just two rooms pretty much but I saw puppets (I'm looking for a better term but not finding it right now) that looked like human beings:

And it was free so I enjoyed myself :)

Good night my friends!
