Warning, today you will be sick of seeing my face!! ;)
I woke up at 7 this morning because today I was going on another organized day trip, this time to a different country! So what happened is that the first day I arrived in Dubrovnik, I was having lunch and one older couple sat down near my table and started talking in Québécois. When they left, they walked by my table and I asked them with my own very Québécois accent which region they were from. They were from Québec city. They chatted with me for a few minutes and told me how lovely Kotor was, so when I saw that there were day-trips going there, I decided to book one for today!
There were 5 of us in the car including the guide and myself. There was also one couple from Spain and a Russian girl who was traveling alone just like me. The reason why you will see me a lot today is that the Russian girl and I decided to stay together and take pictures of each other!
On the way to Kotor, we did a few stops at specific picture spots. Here you have an island that has a monastery of I can't remember which religion. The monks were kicked out at one point, I forgot by who. But what I remember is that the monks put a curse on the island, stating that any individual who would own this island would have a horrible fate. And apparently if you look at the history of the owners, all of them either died on the island or had very bad misfortune after buying it. Right now, the curse does not apply because the island is currently owned by the Croatian government if I remember correctly:
Here is the first picture of me!!
The next stop was at a location where you can see two churches, each on their own islands. The one on the left is a natural island while the one on the right is man-made:
We eventually ended up in Kotor in the country of Montenegro. The country is not part of the European Union but their currency is still the Euro, I didn't know that was possible. I really liked this little town a lot, it has the same middle-age charm as the cities by the coast in Croatia but it also has huge moutains in the background and a fortress at the top of a hill. There are also caves that you can apparently visit but I didn't have a chance to see that. We only had an hour and a half in Kotor so we did not have enough time to go all the way up to the fortress either which is sad. So I think I will have to come back to Kotor at one point :) Here are the pictures:
Back in the car, we stopped a few minutes later on top of a bay, I can't remember which city we see below, I don't think it's Kotor but it could be, I forgot... The view was amazing, that I remember!
Our second stop was at Budva, here the guide took us quickly around town, it's not very big. I took a few picture while he was talking:
And he then gave us an hour of free time which I completely used up to have lunch. So unfortunately, I didn't see much of Budva but it's fine, there didn't seem to be that much to see anyways.
Our last stop was in front of Sveti Stefan which is an island that is currently privately own, the guide thinks the owner right now is some rich arab sheik. All the houses on the island are in fact 5-star appartments that are rented to super rich people. You are not allowed to go on the island if you do not have a reservation.
And finally we came back to Dubrovnik! Since we lost one hour at the border due to traffic, we got here fairly late so I had dinner and now I'm back at the hostel, typing my blog post for you! And before I say good night to you, here is a nice picture I took on the way back:
Good night!
